Two people drowned in the River Nile in an accident involving a commercial boat in Bor County, Jonglei state on Wednesday.
Elijah Thongbor Abraham, the Jonglei Boats Trade Union Secretary-General told Radio Tamazuj that the boat was carrying passengers and goods en route to Bor town when it capsized at Jebel Pariak along the Nile on Wednesday evening.
“What happened was that the boat loaded with cement, left Jemeza for Bor in the morning. After reaching Pariak it suffered an engine failure and then sank with all goods killing a boy and a girl,” he said.
Thongbor extended his condolences to the families of the two children.
The state police could not be reached for comment on this story.
Boat mishaps are commonplace along the Nile in Jonglei resulting in loss of lives.
