About 240 households displaced by floods in parts of Jonglei state on Monday received a donation of relief food aid from the Jonglei Artists Union.
The relief items were distributed to vulnerable families in Bor town.
“We donated over 200 sacks of maize flour, 47 sacks of beans and other non-food items like blankets and mosquito nets to about 240 people severely affected by the floods from the counties of Bor Duk and Twic East,” Emmanuel Reec, the head of the union’s organizing committee, told Radio Tamazuj.
He pointed out that they plan to reach out to more flood victims as they get support.
“This donation was contributions from people through fundraising events we held in Juba and Nimule,” Reec said.
Meanwhile, Anyuat Awan, a member of the organizing committee, said they will next week travel to Mangalla town to support the displaced with food and non-food items.
“We will arrange to travel to Mangalla next week. We have 700 more sacks of maize flour which we want to distribute to our people,” he said.
Awan appealed for help for the flood victims, saying the humanitarian situation is appalling in Jonglei.
According to reports, the floods have displaced 400, 000 people from their homes in parts of Jonglei State since July. The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) warned that the flood victims could face serious food shortages if not supported.
