The ministry of agriculture in Jonglei and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on Tuesday launched this year’s agricultural season in Bor town by distributing seeds to local farmers.
Speaking to reporters in Bor town during the launch, Owen Calvert, FAO’ s program manager said their partners are targeting at least 7, 000 households with seeds distribution and farming tools in order to help build resilience among the locals in Jonglei state.
“We have three components: one is to improve on agriculture, livestock and fish production across South Sudan, the second component is to look for livestock diversification opportunity and to promote other income generating activities, and the last area that we are focusing on is looking on sustainable natural resource management,” he said.
For his part, Jonglei Agriculture Minister Mayen Ngor urged local residents to seize the opportunity and increase food production.
Minister Mayen also pointed out that he convinced agriculture partners not to import seeds but buy from the locals in order to boost income generation and motivate them.
