Joint Security meeting between Sudan and South Sudan in Khartoum

The fifth meeting of the Joint Security Mechanism (JSM) between Sudan and South Sudan is scheduled to kick off on Tuesday 26 November in Khartoum.

The fifth round of talks will be headed by the Chiefs of the Intelligence Services of both countries, General Sadig Amir Hassan of the Sudan Armed Forces(SAF) and General Mac Bol of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA).

In a press statement to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) the rapporteur of the JSM, Dr El Muiz Farug, explained that the meeting will discuss the security arrangements in accordance with the matrix drawn in the Joint Cooperation Agreement between the two countries.

He added that the talks will also discuss the opening of checkpoints at the mutual border to facilitate the smooth movement of citizens and traders. Another important point of discussion will be the creation of a Safe Demilitarized Buffer Zone for the “disputed areas” according to what has been agreed upon by Presidents Omar Al Bashir and Salva Kiir on the side lines of the third Arab-Africa summit in Kuwait recently.
