The Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC), a body tasked with overseeing the implementation of the 2015 peace agreement in South Sudan, announced that it will hold a plenary meeting on Monday at the Crown Hotel in Juba.
According to a statement issued by and extended to Radio Tamazuj on Saturday, JMEC Chairperson Festus Mogae said, “the critical phase of the High-Level Revitalization Forum is expected to reconvene next week in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and the JMEC plenary constitutes an important platform through which members can continue to push for progress in the revitalization process, hear from the Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU) on the implementation of the Agreement, and appeal directly to the political leaders and the people of South Sudan to work relentlessly to achieve lasting peace.”
The peace monitoring body further said it will receive updates from UNMISS on the humanitarian situation in South Sudan, report from the CTSAMM on compliance or lack thereof with the Agreement on Cessation of Hostilities, Protection of Civilians and Humanitarian Access as signed in December 2017 and a report from the National Constitution Amendment Committee (NCAC).
