The plenary meeting by the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) today has been postponed due to a lack of quorum.
Speaking after the cancelation of the plenary meeting in Juba, JMEC chairperson Festus Mogae said the meeting was cancelled after representatives of the unity government failed to show up.
Mogae pointed out that the meeting has been adjourned to a later date to be communicated after consultations with the government.
“As you might have seen, we do not have a quorum to proceed with JMEC 22nd plenary meeting. Our quorum for the plenary is ten South Sudanese stakeholders and eight from regional and international groups. Our colleagues, the representatives of some of the parties in the TGoNU have informed us that they are unable to attend allegedly because they just returned from Addis Ababa, where they have been invited by IGAD,” said Mogae.
