JMEC: all 1370 opposition troops have arrived in Juba

The Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) which is overseeing implementation of the peace deal has announced that as of yesterday all of the 1370 SPLA-In Opposition troops and police have arrived in Juba from Malakal.

JMEC said they arrived on a combination of United Nations and chartered aircraft.

JMEC deputy chairperson François L. Fall, expressed his gratitude to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan for its efforts to support the air and ground movement of these forces, its provision of engineering assistance in Juba, and for the financial and in-kind contributions of China, Ethiopia, Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States to the operation.

1370 was the minimum of SPLM-IO troops in Juba agreed as a threshold for the return of Vice President Designate Riek Machar.
