JMCC needs to report on cantonment delay, Council of Ministers says

The Joint Monitoring Ceasefire Committee should report on the delayed establishment of cantonment sites for opposition forces, South Sudan’s Council of Ministers said yesterday.

Specifically, the report should include information about the delayed establishment of cantonment sites in Upper Nile, government spokesperson and Minister of Information Michael Makuei told journalists.

“This is a setback, and as such the cabinet has directed the JMCC reports to the council of ministers in its next meeting, as to why they have not up to this moment established cantonment areas in the agreed areas “he added.

Makuei said the security situation is generally stable across the country, except attacks and ambushes by what he called “negative forces.” He added that the cabinet passed a resolution to refer all security reports to National Security Council for discussion.
