The Joint Military Ceasefire Commission (JMCC) on Friday delivered forms for registration and screening of government troops at the military barracks in Ayod County of Fangak State.

The Joint Military Ceasefire Commission (JMCC) on Friday delivered forms for registration and screening of government troops at the military barracks in Ayod County of Fangak State.

The body, which is made up of both government and opposition, also provided medicines to government soldiers at Palith area.

Riek Bim Top, a member of the Joint Military Ceasefire Commission, told reporters from Ayod County that he visited the SSPDF forces to deliver forms for the registration process.

“I went to Bor some days back, and I had delivered the forms and the registration process is ongoing now,” Bim said.

“In the whole 10 barracks of the SSPDF, including the 25 cantonment sites identified in phase 2, we are working smoothly. I will be proceeding to the other side of Ayod area that is Mogok cantonment site to deliver forms for registration,” he added.

The JMCC official pointed out that they are now working to ensure the screening process is completed by the end of September.

On his part, the deputy governor of Fangak State, Daniel Kuony said the security situation is stable in the state. He emphasized the importance of security arrangements to ensure smooth implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

“When the army is far away from civilians, it is good because the presence of the army near civilians can cause problems,” he said.

Last month, the parties to the peace deal resolved that at least 50% of the 83,000 necessary unified forces should be trained and deployed before the end of September.

President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Riek Machar held talks in Juba early this week to resolve pending issues holding up the formation of a transitional government proposed for November.
