The Jieng (Dinka) Council of Elders on Thursday met with Equatoria and Nuer elders in Juba where they discussed issues pertaining to peaceful co-existence between their communities.
Speaking during the two-day dialogue at Nyakuron Cultural Centre hall, Chuol Rambang, Chairperson of South Sudan’s Peace and Reconciliation Commission, called on political leaders to put the interests of the country above any other considerations.
He emphasised the importance of unity and peaceful co-existence between the communities to make a difference in South Sudan, while urging the leaders to accept each other despite political differences.
Rambang attributed the ongoing insecurity in different parts of the country to economic crisis. He added that the provision of security and reconciliation will definitely improve the economic situation and bring about peace.
The dialogue is scheduled to conclude today.
In October, the Jieng Council of Elders met with Jubek elders and agreed to work jointly in support of peaceful co-existence, and urged the government to strive towards peace and the protection of civilians across the whole nation.
