The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) says it has released nine war prisoners and handed them over to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Sunday.
In a statement seen by Radio Tamazuj yesterday, the JEM rebel group announced that it released about nine war prisoners aligned to Mohammed Bashir’s faction who defected from JEM in 2013.
The Darfur rebel group identified the released prisoners as al-Tayib Khamis, Ali Wafi Bashar, Ali Gulu, Yassin Abdalla Zachariah and Adil Mahjoub Hussein, while four men were transferred to Aweil Hospital for treatment.
According to the statement, Ibrahim Zariba, Mohammed Ali Mohamedain, Salah Hamed Ismail and Mohammed Abakar Idris were transferred to Aweil Hospital in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr al Ghazal State for treatment.
All arrangements are in place to transfer the released prisoners to Khartoum next week through the ICRC, according to JEM.
