The local youth in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area’s (GPAA) Jebel Boma County on Tuesday foiled a cattle raid by armed assailants at the county headquarters, Jebel Boma Town, authorities said.
The county commissioner, Longony Alston, told Radio Tamazuj that the rustled 87 head of cattle were recovered and that the attackers he suspected to have come from the neighboring Eastern Equatoria State escaped unhurt.
“On Tuesday at 2 a.m., some criminals from Taposa in Eastern Equatoria’s Kapoeta area attacked Jebel Boma Town,” he said. “They rustled 87 cattle but our youth managed to recover them later.”
Meanwhile, Docklace De Telmaris Api, the county information director, confirmed the raid and called on Eastern Equatoria State authorities to beef up border security.
“No one was killed or injured in the attack. In the shootout, the attackers were repulsed and they fled. The 87 head of cattle they had raided were all recovered,” he stated. “We urge the Government of Eastern Equatoria State to stop these recurring attacks.”
However, when contacted, the Kapoeta East County commissioner said he could not comment on the matter because he was in a meeting.
