A committee of the Joint Defense Board (JDB) arrived in the Western Bahr el Ghazal State capital, Wau, on Monday to make arrangements for the second phase of training of the Necessary Unified Forces (NUF).
The committee headed by Lieutenant General Gabriel Duop Both, the Deputy Chief of Defense Forces and co-chair of the JDB, will visit SPLA-IO cantonment sites in Dolo in Raja county and Ngalima in Wau county.
Addressing the media upon their arrival at Wau airport, Gen. Duop said their visit would focus on assembling the forces at all cantonment sites for their preparation ahead of the second phase of training which will commence soon.
“Our visit is just a routine visit and move to the cantonment areas of the opposition forces so that they can get ready. Our objective is to ensure that our forces are ready for the second phase of training and also the SSPDF will get ready at their barracks because we are heading for the second phase of training” he said. “We need these people to get ready because once food arrives in the training centers, training will immediately start.”
According to Gen. Duop, the soldiers will be screened at the cantonment areas before being sent to the training camps.
“We need the unification of all forces in South Sudan because we will not have phase three, this will be the last unification,” he stressed. “We are going to Dolo in Raja and we will go to Ngalima. The government is currently making the transport arrangements to bring food and shelter to all the training centers.”
The senior military officer also revealed that forces who graduated last year will be deployed soon.
