Jamam camp refugees complain of lack of tents

Refugees at Jamam camp in Upper Nile complained of lack of tarpaulins and tents and expressed fears of the increase of flu cases among children. The omda (‘mayor’) Mahjoub Adam from Jamam camp for Blue Nile refugees told Radio Tamazuj that the majority of the new refugees in the camp complain of lack of tarpaulins and tents, after their arrival to the camp during the last months. Jamam and the nearby Yusuf Batil Camp saw a massive influx of refugees since June. The camp in Jamam is managed by ACTED. Other organizations present in the camp are UNHCR, Oxfam, and Doctors Without Borders (Netherlands). According to Mahjoub Adam, no tents or tarpaulins were yet distributed to newcomers. He said he feared this would increase the risk of flu transmission among children because of increased rainfall and other factors contributing to poor health conditions. He concluded calling on organizations to provide shelters so they can protect their children from rain and sun. Photo by UNHCR/P.
