The cotton crop in southern White Nile face potential failure in the areas Um Jalala, Dabat Al Towar and Al Naiem. A number of farmers in the area depend on support from the government to operate the irrigation equipment that supplies water to their farms.
One of these farmers who spoke to Radio Tamazuj said that their farms are threatened with failure because they did not yet receive gasoline from the Ministry of Agriculture to operate water pumps for the remainder of the growing season.
“The cotton crop is really bad,” the farmer said on Radio Tamazuj. “In terms of cotton the largest project in White Nile is outside Um Jalala. The irrigation systems in that area are not working.”
