The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has recently renovated vital facilities in the contested area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan.

Alor Dou El Bet, Director General of Services in Abyei area told the Abyei Today news program that the IOM implemented several physical infrastructures including the Social Welfare Department, an orphanage, the Agriculture Department, and a store for strategic reserves.

El Bet commended the efforts by the IOM in maintaining important projects in the area, saying the organization also reconditioned water sources and toilets.

He said with these projects they will be able to receive the returnees who had left following the Sudanese Armed Forces attack in the area, which caused destruction of vital facilities.
