Northern Bahr el Ghazal authorities have set free the former Finance Minister Ayii Bol Akol after he was investigated over missing funds, but they have threatened that they intend to take him to court.

State Minister of Information Angelo Akech Akeen said that the former official was given freedom of movement after being questioned by an investigation team formed by the government to find lost public funds. He said the investigation was completed and that the former minister of finance has been released on bail awaiting final rulings by the court.

“So, he is at home now, the first step of the investigation is over, what is remaining is the court ruling,” he said. “Justice should take its course, so we are waiting for the ruling of the court in coming days.”

“When the ruling comes out, it will be known by the media and people of Northern Bahr al Ghazal, whether he will be convicted or not. So this depends on the procedures followed by the court,” he said.

He pointed out that the former minister of finance is now free to move but noted, “Even if you are at home, you are still under investigation until you appear before the court.”
