Officials from the Sudan People’s Liberation Army and Eastern Equatoria’s state government visited the Pageri payam, where an attack earlier this week left three soldiers and one civilian dead.

No one has been arrested in connection with the attack and officials said they were still trying to determine a motive.

Deputy Governor Jerome Gama Surur condemned the attackers and called on the community to remain calm as the police conducted an investigation.

SPLA spokesperson Philip Aguer said he did not believe the attack was conducted by soldiers from the rebel SPLA-IO, who claimed to have taken control of the town earlier this week. He said the government still remained in control of Pageri.
