Investigation into disputed areas in Aweil state

Members of the Aweil State Legislative Assembly are currently investigating disputes over boundaries of the newly created counties in the states, a parliamentarian said.

The dispute over boundaries caused mounting tension between local authorities in the state, prompting the state parliament to intervene and control the situation.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, Kon Deng Chan, chairperson of the parliamentary committee for legal affairs, said that the lawmakers visited the contested areas.

He pointed out that the findings of the investigation will be sent to the state assembly and the state governor who will refer the matter to the Council of States in Juba.
