An investigation is underway into a land dispute in Juba involving a Catholic priest and some SPLA soldiers.

Last Wednesday, a group of suspected SPLA soldiers allegedly demolished a home and shops belonging to Fr. Banjamin Madol Akot of the Rumbek Diocese, according to the priest’s nephew Benjamin Bol Dhoruai.

Dhoruai said he spoke to his uncle in person last night at the Giyada military barracks where the priest is being held along with three of the suspected soldiers.

A court date will be set once investigations are complete, the nephew said.

Dhoruai said Madol has suffered injuries in the hands of the military, adding that two boys related to Madol were also beaten by SPLA soldiers during the ordeal and have been admitted to Juba Teaching Hospital.
