The investigation committee formed to help resolve the ongoing intercommunal conflict in Jonglei State and Pibor Administrative Area has warned community leaders against fuelling violence in the region.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, the committee spokesperson Daniel Abocha Ali said the committee on Monday held a meeting with representatives of all communities in Jonglei state and Pibor Administrative Area to find solutions to the conflict.

He said members of the investigation committee requested all committee leaders to persuade the armed youths to withdraw and return to their areas.

According to reports, armed men from Jonglei State have recently marched toward Murle villages in Pibor Administrative Area with intentions to launch attacks.

Abocha says the investigation committee is working with the utmost transparency to ensure the ongoing conflict in the Greater Jonglei region is resolved.

He disclosed that the committee plans to visit Jonglei this week as it continues with the investigation process on the ground.

The Greater Jonglei region is plagued by recurring intercommunal tensions involving the Dinka, Nuer and Murle communities. The cycle of violence is often accompanied by cattle raids, child abductions, and other revenge-inducing crimes.

David Shearer, the head of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), told Radio Tamazuj last month the security situation in the Greater Jonglei region was still tense and could result in many people being killed.
