A two-day inter-religious peace conference ended in Jonglei State capital, Bor on Thursday last week with calls of unity among the various Greater Jonglei region communities.
The conference was organized with the aim of building capacities of 33 religious leaders for their roles in promoting peace in communities.
“There were over 30 religious leaders from the Episcopal Church, Presbyretarian Church, Pentecostal, Evangelical and Muslims. They were drawn from the Greater Pibor, Greater Akobo and Greater Bor. The main theme was the role religious leader can play to bring peace in greater Jonglei. This is because as religious leaders, we have problems,” Ruben Akurdit Ngong, the Bishop of Bor Diocese and Archbishop of Jonglei internal province told Radio Tamazuj Friday.
He added, “We associate with our ethnic groups. There is no trust”.
Akurdit pointed out that all participants were tasked to build peace and trust among communities in the Greater Jonglei during the conference.
He revealed that seven clergies from various ethnic groups were nominated to jointly preach peace messages in Greater Jonglei.
The event was supported by the Civil Affairs Division of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan in collaboration with Finn Church Aid.
