Inter-communal clashes killed dozens in Gogrial East and West

Warrap State Minister of Information Paul Dhel Gum says that inter-communal clashes between Gogrial East and West last week left about 25 people dead and wounded 13 others from the two sides.

However, the state official noted the number of wounded could rise as the final report has not been yet received from the two feuding communities.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Dhel said the clashes had stopped, but the number of wounded persons is not yet identified from both sides, while estimating the wounded as dozens.

Gum, who is also the government spokesman, said a buffer zone between the two conflicting communities has been created to avoid clashes as the government intends to bring in more forces to help de-escalate the security situation.

He added the local authorities are working to defuse tension through a reconciliation meeting between the two communities. He called upon families of the wounded from both sides to take their wounded people to hospitals for treatment.
