Today, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) engaged in clashes with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in Al-Thawrat areas 26, 27, and 29 of Karari locality in the capital Khartoum’s twin city of Omdurman.
Abdel Salam, a resident of Al-Thawrat area, told Radio Tamazuj that the clashes began early this morning and persisted until 9 a.m. He described the fighting as “very intense.”
According to Salam, several neighborhoods in Al-Thawrat area were hit by stray shells and bullets. Approximately four shells landed in Al-Thawra district 7, while one shell struck a displacement center in Al-Thawra district 8, resulting in injuries. The wounded were promptly taken to Al-Naw Hospital.
Moreover, Salam mentioned, “Artillery fire originating from Khartoum Bahri and Umbadda is directed towards Al-Thawrat areas.”
A female resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that two shells fell near Al-Nau Hospital. She added that the indiscriminate shelling compelled them to seek refuge in a room deep within their house.
Since 15 April 2023, Sudan has been riven by war between the army, led by Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan, and his former deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The overall conflict has killed tens of thousands, including up to 15,000 in a single West Darfur town, according to United Nations experts.
More than 8.8 million people fled their homes since fighting erupted between the Sudanese army and the RSF.
