Insecurity in S. Sudan’s Panyang: citizens

Citizens of the border area Panyang in Unity State of Pariang County are facing threats from armed groups in the area allegedly carrying out attacks, looting and raping women.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, one of the local residents said that since the withdrawal of the South Sudanese army from the region as part of the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement between Juba and Khartoum, the region began to experience deterioration in the security situation.

Reportedly there has been an increase in the number of unidentified armed elements allegedly involved in criminality.

The source added that the incidents were reported to the authorities of the region, but there were no strong measures taken to pursue the suspects.

It was earlier reported from the same county that the roads linking various refugee camps including Yida, Nyeel and Pariang are increasingly insecure.
