Insecurity has brought business to a standstill, causing prices of basic commodities to rise in markets in Mvolo County of Western Equatoria State.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Thomas Juma, the administrator of Yeri payam in Mvolo County said roads linking Juba and their area have been cut off for more than a month due to insecurity.
“Since last month when a vehicle got burned on the road to Juba, no one has travelled to bring goods for fear of similar attacks,” said Juma.
William Anthony, a local trader in Yeri, acknowledged the rise in prices of goods in the market and blamed it on the insecurity in the area.
“We are facing a lot of challenges as traders here in Yeri. Our businesses are collapsing because we are unable to travel to Juba and bring goods because of fear. The issue of the hard currency is also another challenge facing the business people here,” he explained.
The trader urged the national government to address insecurity to enable traders buy goods and reduce prices in Mvolo.
