Informal talks fail between Khartoum, SPLA-North

Sudanese presidential aide Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid announced that informal talks with the SPLA-North rebels failed in Berlin, Germany over the weekend.

The informal talks concluded on Saturday and were meant to focus on a ceasefire, humanitarian access, and how the SPLA-N can join the National Dialogue.

Speaking to the state-run news agency SUNA, Hamid accused the SPLA-North delegation of reneging on previous points of agreement.

He said the SPLA-N wanted to command a separate army, not a unified force.

"The SPLM delegation headed by Yasser Arman rejected the commitments they made in the previous round of talks in Addis Ababa to join the national dialogue,” said Ibrahim.

Ibrahim, who is also member of the national dialogue mechanism known as “7+7,” disclosed that the rebel delegation requested the ongoing National Dialogue should be facilitated by the international community ـــــ a request Hamid said contradicts the Sudanization of the national dialogue.

Ibrahim claimed a Sudan-only national dialogue is supported by political parties and the international community.

For his part, SPLM-N spokesperson at peace talks, Mubarak Ardol said the Khartoum government rejected all proposals submitted on humanitarian access, equitable dialogue, and ceasefire in the Two Areas and Darfur.

Ardol announced in a statement the informal talks between the government and SPLA-N failed to find a solution.
