An Indian national was shot dead by an unknown gunman in the disputed territory of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan on Saturday, a source said.

The victim was identified as Syed Farooq Basha.

The source told Radio Tamazuj that Basha was working for Omaski Sai Infrastructure Co Ltd., which is involved in drilling wells for water in the region.

Reportedly, the company decided to suspend its activities for a week after the incident.
