Immigration officers in Nimule prevent athletes from reaching Juba

South Sudanese immigration authorities in Nimule blocked two kickboxers from reaching Juba to participate in an East African kickboxing event.

WKF World Kickboxing Federation South Sudan President Puro Okelo Obob said that two competitors were affected, Fred Nyichee from Kenya and Dennis Romaro from Uganda. He did not explain the reasons why the players were prevented from entering the territory of South Sudan, “but the authorities have arrested them,” he said Friday.

This championship was supposed to be held in Nyakuron Cultural Centre on Friday, but instead of that, several normal matches were held, including the first between Simon Sudan against Joseph Pio Liwa, which was won by Joseph.

The second match was between Karbino Deng and Daw, weight of 67 kg. Daw won by 27 points to 24, the third match was Mike against James Majok, weight 75 kg, won by Mike with 32 points compared to 24 points, and the fourth match between Kandi Lado and Aboyak was won by Aboyak 32 to 27.

Kickboxing like many other sports in South Sudan lacks financial support, but some players continue to be interested in the sport. It is also supported by some individuals, such as Samvel Charkhifalakyan of Silver Star Ltd.
