The South Sudan Directorate of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passports, and Immigration on Thursday opened a mobile office in Mundri West County to issue nationality identity cards to citizens there.
The deputy head of the mobile office, Major Julius Benjamin, told Radio Tamazuj Thursday that they will issue nationality identity cards and passports for a week in Mundri.
“We have come to Mundri and we are going to be here for one week to work on nationality (card) and passports for those who do not have them,” he said. “Anyone in Mundri who does not have a nationality identity card and a passport can come to us in the office. When we finish the week, we will move to other places like Mvolo and Maridi.”
James Malish, a Mundri resident, welcomed the issuance of the identity documents on the ground and said it will benefit those who cannot go to Juba.
“It is okay for us to do the process here in Mundri because going to juba is going to cost too much money. We the citizens are happy and we welcome the process,” he said.
Zilipher Dayi also lauded the initiative but said one week is too short for Mundri.
“We heard that the nationality and passport directorate people have come and it is a good thing for us as citizens,” Dayi said. “Let it be a continuous thing here because this one week is too short. We need more days.”
