A top security officer in charge of protection for the Imatong State Governor Tobolio Alberio was shot dead by unknown gunmen while going to the main market.
The deceased identified as Santo Mawiir was shot dead on Sunday evening at the market in Torit town.
Governor Tobolio confirmed the incident and said security officials have not yet given him any report on the incident.
“My security guard was a member of the national security service and he was deployed by the national security,” Governor Tobolio told Radio Tamazuj today.
“He is not from of the area. He is actually from greater Upper Nile,” he said.
The top state official pointed out that investigations are underway.
“People shouldn’t take laws into their hands, so let’s wait for investigations to be carried out. This is message to the people of South Sudan,” he said.
