The Inspector General of the South Sudan National Police Service (IGP) has issued a clear directive to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), emphasizing the importance of adhering to their professional mandate.

This mandate includes crime prevention, the collection of accurate information, and a strict avoidance of any involvement in criminal activities.

Gen. Atem Marol Biar urged CID personnel to foster a collaborative team spirit in order to achieve their objectives. He sternly warned officers against engaging in any form of criminal activities.

In his words, “We are supposed to leave the issue of politics to the government so that we work as a family of police. Police and hospitals don’t have borders, and our people are suffering in the markets. The information I got indicates that the CID has divided the markets, assigning individual shops for revenue collection. This unauthorized practice must cease immediately.”

In response, Lieutenant-General Abraham Manyuat Peter, Assistant Inspector General for Administration and Finance, stressed the importance of accuracy in information gathering. He called on officers to submit the correct information to relevant authorities for prompt action.

Gen. Manyuat emphasized, “You are dealing with information, the right information. Don’t bring us lies. Collect accurate information and then present it to the right person in the right place, so we can take action. The information you have should go to the commander of the division for necessary actions to be taken.”

The IGP and other high-ranking officials have emphasized the imperative for the CID to uphold professionalism, work collaboratively, and refrain from criminal activities.

Quoting Gen. Marol and Gen. Manyuat, the message is clear: adherence to professional standards is paramount, and accurate information must be the foundation of their actions.
