The IGAD Council of Ministers will meet in Ethiopia on Friday to discuss the implementation of the peace agreement in South Sudan.
“The 66th Extraordinary Session of the IGAD Council of Ministers will convene on Friday, November 16, 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. On the agenda are the Implementation of the Revitalized Agreement of the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) and progress in Somalia,” reads the statement issued by IGAD today.
Earlier this month, South Sudan’s Information Minister Michael Makuei admitted that the implementation of the peace deal has run behind the schedule and urged all peace mechanisms to expedite the implementation process.
Meanwhile, the deputy chairman of the SPLM-IO group, Henry Dilah Odwar said recently that the implementation of the peace deal has fallen further behind schedule.
Under the peace deal signed in September, a new transitional unity government will be formed after eight months.
