The Eastern Africa bloc Intergovernmental Authority on Development, IGAD on Tuesday strongly condemned an attack on Dusit Complex in Nairobi, Kenya as “cowardly and reprehensible.”

IGAD Executive Secretary, Amb. Mahboub Maalim, in a press release, reaffirmed IGAD’s solidarity with the people and Kenyan government in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

He also extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the bereaved and wished a quick and full recovery to the injured.

Maalim further commended the Kenyan security forces and emergency services for their swift response to the attack and hence saving lives.

"Such barbaric attacks must not be allowed to weaken our collective determination to eliminate the scourge of terrorism from our region," he stressed.

At least 14 people were confirmed dead, 176 rescued and all terrorists neutralized, according to Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta while addressing the nation on Wednesday morning.
