The IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan, Ambassador Ismail Wais, said the intra-South Sudanese talks were progressing well in Addis Ababa.
In a press statement in Addis Ababa today afternoon, Wais said:” As far as I can see, it is going on very well and it will be very beautiful and commendable if the South Sudanese without any intervention from outside can come to a solution and lead the country to peace and stability.”
The diplomat pointed out that the East African regional bloc IGAD had accepted the intra-South Sudanese dialogue because South Sudan is at a crossroad.
“We know that the people of South Sudan really desperately need peace, and we have nothing to say no if South Sudanese themselves can generate the sort of peace we really wish for the people of South Sudan,” he said.
Wais further said the parties will sign a final peace agreement if the intra-South Sudanese talks make a significant breakthrough.
“If the next two days are not enough, then we will think about extending or reconvening at the last session of the HLRF,” he explained.
The special envoy urged the South Sudan parties to build trust and discuss objectively to make a breakthrough saying his office will support South Sudanese to find an amicable solution to the ongoing conflict.
