Foreign Ministers of the Inter- Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) have arrived in Juba on Friday to carry out consultations with the various parties that make up South Sudan’s coalition government on revitalization of the 2015 peace accord.
IGIAD seeks a broad range of views before the conduct of the Revitalisation Forum that aims to return to the signed peace agreement.
Speaking to reporters at Juba Airport upon the arrival of the IGAD foreign ministers, South Sudan’s Foreign Minister, Deng Alor Kuol said the visiting foreign ministers will be in Juba for two days and will carry out consultations with the various parties.
“I hope they will be successful in their mission because we need this revitalization. We have accepted this revitalization as government, as political forces and I hope this revitalization will help the people of South Sudan, Deng said.
For his part, Workneh Gebeyehu, Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister who is also chairman of the IGAD Council of Ministers said they are in Juba to talk with President Kiir and political forces.
“We hope that we are going according to our schedule and I hope we will get fruitful results especially from the people of South Sudan and support of neighbouring countries,” he said.
Ibrahim Ghandour, Sudan’s Foreign Minister said they met all the estranged groups outside South Sudan and all have expressed their willingness for peace in the country.
The delegation led by Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister Workneh Gebeyehu includes Amina Mohamed, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Rapporteur to the IGAD Council of Ministers, Sam Kutesa, Ugandan Foreign Minister, Ibrahim Ghandour, Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mohamoud Ali Youssouf, Djibouti’s Foreign Minister and Abdulkadir Ahmedkheyir Abdi, State Minister for the Federal Republic of Somalia.
