South Sudan’s national dialogue co-chair Angelo Beda has met with the IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan, Ambassador Ismail Wais over the upcoming revitalization forum after meeting all stakeholders in the country.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday after the meeting at Freedom Hall, Beda said today’s meeting with Ambassador Wais focused on IGAD consultations with all parties to the peace agreement.
He further said the East African regional bloc IGAD wanted to know their position as members of the national dialogue committee on the revitalization process.
“Today, we had a very important meeting with the team of the IGAD that is here with us in Juba to make consultations on the revitalization of the peace process which was signed in 2015,” Beda said.
He explained that the IGAD team reported to them that the opposition groups had accepted ceasefire and the upcoming revitalization forum.
“The good thing for us is that these people (rebels) have agreed on the principles of cessation of hostilities and declaration of ceasefire, so on this aspect we are quite comfortable with them and we really welcome it,” Beda said.
“The meeting was very positive and constructive,” said Ismail Wais, IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan.
