The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) dispatched ceasefire monitors who arrived earlier this week to Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State.
The group is part of the monitoring and verification teams that the East African regional body is using to check compliance with the ceasefire signed between the country’s two warring factions, SPLA-Juba and SPLA-IO.
Team Leader Gebre Selassie Abraha said the state is not one of the direct conflict areas, but the team came anyway to monitor and check for any violations.
The IGAD monitors are also expected to meet with eyewitnesses to record any violations committed by the warring parties since the signing of the ceasefire agreements in January.
