IGAD calls for another round of peace consultations

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), which is mediating the South Sudanese peace process, has called for one more around of Intensive Interlink Consultations in Addis Ababa.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), which is mediating the South Sudanese peace process, has called for one more around of Intensive Interlink Consultations in Addis Ababa.

The consultation is scheduled for 16-18 June.

The consultation, according to IGAD special envoy to South Sudan, will identify possible compromises and build consensus.

“lt therefore gives me great pleasure to request your excellency to nominate nine (9) delegates (one from each member of the alliance) to attend this consultation,” Ismail Wais, the IGAD special envoy to South Sudan said in a 6 June letter addressed to the opposition alliance.

 “I would also respectfully remind you to ensure that women are represented in your delegation,” adds the letter.

A senior opposition official confirmed they have been invited by IGAD to attend another round of consultations on the peace process in Addis Ababa.

The recently extra-ordinary session of the IGAD council of ministers approved the revised bridging proposal on the outstanding governance and security.
