IDPs stranded in Juba airport arrive in Melut, Upper Nile

The leader of displaced people in Block 1 of Melut IDP camp in South Sudan’s Upper Nile State Jeremiah Ongoi has reported the arrival of more than 1,400 displaced people who were stranded at Juba International Airport.

He said he expects more IDPs to return back in the coming days.

Thousands of people fled Melut to Uganda and Kenya following the conflict between government forces and SPLM/A-IO since mid-December 2013 before returning back to Juba.

Residents in Juba previously told local media houses that about 4,000 people from Upper Nile were stranded near Juba Airport waiting for their relocation to Upper Nile State.

The leader of the camp told Radio Tamazuj that the stranded IDPs were transferred by air to Melut and there are more waiting for their relocation from Juba International Airport.
