Thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) fleeing the ongoing war between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in North Darfur State are living in dire conditions, and lack basic needs and food, according to a local humanitarian agency official.

Hassen Sabir Juma, the manager of IDP affairs at the state’s Humanitarian Aid Commission, told Radio Tamazuj Monday that thousands of families who fled the fighting in Zalingi, Al-Junaynah, Kutum, Tawila, and Al-Fashir are living in dire conditions due to lack of food, medicine, drinking water and tents.

“There are 54 IDP camps in Al-Fashir and the surrounding areas sheltering people from Zalingi, Al-Junaynah, Kutum, Tawila and from the capital Khartoum who fled the ongoing fighting,” he said. “The people in those camps are living in dire conditions due to lack of water, medicine, and food.”

He pointed out that the humanitarian agencies working in the area have provided 60 percent of the displaced needs from food and water, but it was not enough.

Juma urged humanitarian agencies to provide food for the IDPs as it is the most urgent need.
