About 27,000 displaced people in Tambura State are calling for fair distribution of humanitarian assistance by aid agencies in the area.

About 27,000 displaced people in Tambura State are calling for fair distribution of humanitarian assistance by aid agencies in the area.

The IDPs fled Nagero County after fighting between government troops and rebel forces erupted in June this year. Nagero county commissioner was abducted and his whereabouts remain unknown to date.

Several IDPs told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that most of the registered IDPs do not receive the relief items intended for them. Both Michelina Mathew Taban and Terezina Mariano said they have time and again not received their food rations and are forced to go hungry until the next distribution is done.

Andra Carmelo, another IDP in Tambura complained that he has not been a beneficiary of the aid.

Meanwhile, the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission coordinator in Nagero County Angelo Ugo says in coordination with the NGOs, they will implement a new system of distribution in order to resolve the issue.

“What I can tell the NGOs, is that as things already went wrong from the beginning, so we have to adjust. We have to apply a new system of registration. If the registration was done Boma to Boma, chief to chief, all these mess could not have happened. We have to adjust so that they are registered by chiefs from their respective Bomas. This will make things easy,” Ugo advised.

According to Ugo, the Tambura IDP camp hosts up to 27,000 internally displaced persons, most of whom fled the fighting in Nagero County.
