IDPs begin to return home as security improves in Raja town: official

Nearly 600 internally displaced people (IDPs) have returned home in Raja town in South Sudan’s Lol State this week, a local official said.

The town of Raja has been experiencing heavy clashes between the government forces and opposition fighters.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Lol’s Minister of Information Michael Mathok Wal said the security situation has improved considerably.

He pointed out that internally displaced people living in the bush with the opposition are returning home. He added that the town of Raja is now experiencing peace and stability.

 “Displaced people are coming back every day. The security situation in Raja town is stable and citizens are moving freely,” he said.

Mathok, who is also the state government spokesman, reiterated his government’s commitment to the signed peace deal.
