The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Sudan has denied reports that its plane landed in Kauda area in Sudan’s South Kordofan to deliver assistance.
Kauda is the stronghold of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North (SPLA) rebel group fighting the Khartoum government since 2011.
Asia Kambal, employee in the ICRC office in Khartoum, told Radio Tamazuj said none of their planes landed in Kauda or any other location in South Kordofan in recent years.
She said the ICRC presently does not have access to South Kordofan State and has no activities or presence in that area. The ICRC, as a neutral organization, operates to fulfil its humanitarian mandate to assist people in conflict affected areas only with the approval and official authorization from all parties concerned in full transparency, according Kambal.
On 26 October, the Khartoum-based Al Intibaha newspaper published an article mentioning that a Red Cross plane landed in Kauda to deliver assistance.
