A local official in South Sudan’s Maridi State on Monday complained about lack of school teachers in Ibba County.
The county commissioner, Gbezakuma Tore urged the education ministry to appoint new teachers in primary and secondary schools.
He said the education system has declined due to lack of trained teachers.
“We have a secondary school and a primary school, but there are no teachers who can teach our students. So we are appealing to our education officials to look into this matter,” said Gbezakuma.
“There are students in Ibba, but teachers are lacking,” he added.
On his part, however, the state education minister, Joseph Liya said people have shown little interest, despite efforts to mobilize teachers.
“Nobody is interested to become a teacher and so is it our problem as a ministry? We are doing what we can, but it is a collective responsibility,” he added.
Liya urged county authorities to mobilize, at the local levels, those interested in teaching, while vowing to fill gaps in secondary schools.
