At least one trader was killed and about 500 cows stolen in a Juba-Bor road ambush carried out by armed bandits on a group of cattle traders at the outskirts of the capital, Juba on Thursday, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Jay Adingora, the GPAA information minister, said the incident occurred when the traders taking their cows for sale in Juba were attacked at the Jabor area along the Juba-Bor road on Thursday morning.
“Those attackers went away with about 500 cows. During the incident, one trader was killed and the rest were scattered in the bushes,” he said.
The minister said no one was arrested in connection with the incident but he accused armed youth from Bor County of involvement.
Gatwech Koak Nyuon, the secretary-general of the Jonglei state government, denied the involvement of Bor youth in the attack, saying, “The area where the incident occurred is between Mangalla and Mogiri, our youth can not move up to there.”
For his part, Daniel Justin, the spokesperson for the national police said he has yet to receive reports on the incident.
