The government-appointed governor of Akobo State Johnson Gony Biliu has dismissed claims that he was fatally injured in recent clashes with rebel fighters in the town of Waat in Bieh State.
Gony told Radio Tamazuj this afternoon that he is currently in Waat town in good health condition, pointing out that nothing happened to him during fighting.
“I am now in Waat, I am find and in good health condition. I was never wounded as claimed, so whoever has doubts has to come to see me in Waat,” he said.
Gony, who is also a top general in the SPLA army, said the security situation has returned to normal in the town of Waat. He also disputed reports by opposition forces that the town of Waat is divided into two between government forces and SPLA-IO troops.
The government official claimed that SPLA is still maintaining its position in Waat and that the rebels have already been repulsed from the area.
“The rebels are in Walgak. We have gone to their area in Walgak, so the claims that they have defeated us are unfounded,” he said.
