Three members of a family died and three others injured when a hyena attacked their home in opposition-held territory within Bieh State last week, officials said.
Pal Mai, the opposition-appointed deputy governor of Bieh State, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that at least three people died and three others sustained injuries after being mauled by a hyena in Pulchuol County last Thursday.
He pointed out that the family members were attacked by the aggressive animal while sleeping inside their home in the middle of the night in Pathai Payam.
On his part, Nin Tut Kuei, the government-appointed minister of information in Bieh State confirmed the incident and said the three people died after being mauled by a hyena in their village.
The official identified the three people who died as Kerjok Machot Kok, Nyarika Gaga and Nyibol Tang Thot.
“Nyachak Chan Wuol, Mana Machot Kok and Yany Gatwech Deng sustained injuries after the attack,” he said.
The government official said the injured were admitted to Pieri Health Centre. He revealed that local youth were able to track down and kill the aggressive animal that attacked the family.
