Authorities in Lapon County in South Sudan’s Imatong State say famine and starvation are threatening the lives of local residents in his county.
Lapon County Commission Okal Awoon told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the rains were insufficient, causing crop failure in the area. He further said no assistance has been delivered to his county.
“Citizens here are really suffering because of hunger. There were not enough rains which has affected the crops. But up to now we did not get any assistance to give them,” said Awoon.
“I have informed the governor he knows about this, but he said no response has arrived yet,” he added.
