The region of Awan Pajok in the proposed Gogrial State is facing a food shortage that is threatening lives of citizens, a top local official told Radio Tamazuj.
Peter Pakak, commissioner of Awan Pajok, told Radio Tamazuj that some people have deserted to other states or Sudan because of the hunger.
He added that rains and floods in July destroyed many farms, and called on concerned authorities and humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene.
